Using social media buzz to gauge popular TV shows/Networks

TV ratings used to be measured solely by Neilsen numbers, which would determine advertising rates. Now, in the age of social media, it is important to consider the role of Facebook, Twitter and the like to promote TV shows. In 2012, NBC was the most socially engaging network, no doubt thanks in large part to the summer Olympics. Sports and reality shows seem to be promoted the most via social media. Marketing via social media is unique since businesses can depend on fans to do much of the advertising for them. Word-of-mouth via the water cooler in the old days has evolved into posting on Facebook or Twitter, posting a picture on Pinterest or writing a blog about a favorite TV show. Welcome! Let's talk about marketing!

This is my blog about what is happening in the world of marketing. Advertising is a key part of marketing but personal selling and public relations are important components as well. Those who work in marketing may be involved in brand management, crisis management or promotions. The goal is to communicate information to potential customers that will influence them to purchase a product or service. Other tactics are used for altering the brand identity in the mind of consumers. One must consider the target market and look at how to best use financial resources to communicate ideas with customers. The past 15 years or so have been revolutionary in the world of marketing. Traditional media has to be augmented with new media where marketing information is put on the internet. I will place special emphasis on new media and how businesses use the internet to promote products or ideas. Businesses today have staff to focus on crafting and maintaining the perfect website. They also are using social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Four Square, Pinterest, Google Plus and You Tube for marketing purposes. Search engine optimization or SEO is becoming important since companies want to have their organization at the top of search engine results, so customers can find them easily.
